Dear Jakarta Language Enthusiasts,
Spanish is the world's second-most spoken native language with the first being Mandarin Chinese, both are included in the six official languages of the United Nations.
But unlike Mandarin Chinese, which has many regional variations like Cantonese, Hakka, etc., and concentrated in one single country with a widely spread Chinese diaspora around the world, Spanish is the official language of twenty countries which mainly concentrated in South America.
The use of Spanish language is being regulated by Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española (Association of Academies of the Spanish Language), an entity who works for the unity, integrity, and growth of the Spanish language and also represents the union of all the separate academies in the Spanish-speaking world.
With it being spoken in many parts of the world, the language also represents a unique mix of culture from the communities who use it as a form of communication.
In the twelfth Polyglot Indonesia Jakarta Chapter's Culture & Language meetup series, in collaboration with Instituto Nebrija Jakarta, we would like to invite you to not only understand more about the Spanish language but also learn more about the culture of the Spanish-speaking countries around the world!
Only some of it though, we cannot possibly present all of them in only several hours.
