Food and Beverage (F&B) businesses in particular have to accommodate their customers’ new priorities such as hygiene, digital ordering and delivery system.

  • Problem #1: Your restaurant does not do delivery. Since most people are staying at home, hence there’s a huge decrease in customers in your restaurant, causing low sales;

  • Problem # 2: Your restaurant is not transparent about your kitchen hygiene. Since people are concerned about hygiene during this pandemic, they are more comfortable buying from a restaurant that shows its hygiene procedures such as wearing face masks and gloves in the kitchen. Hence, there’s a huge decrease in customers in your restaurant, causing low sales.


If you do not carefully identify your actual problems, you could have invested your time and money in the wrong solution, such as giving discounts to your customers instead of being transparent in your social media about your kitchen and staff hygiene. This is the main difference between design thinking VS traditional problem solving:


Traditional problem-solving method:

Problem + Reactive action = Short-term/unsatisfactory results


Design thinking method:

Problem - Understand cause - Explore multiple solutions - Informed action = Long-term positive results
