THE STORY OF STUFF (US Animation, 2007, 21min)

For most of the world, consumption has been the unquestioned duty of every individual. Then garbage activist Annie Leonard brought her two-hour lecture to Free Range who helped her turn it into a 20-minute animated revolution. Shown in thousands of classrooms, endlessly blasted by Fox News, viewed more than 10 million times, The Store of Stuff finally opens the door to a serious cultural dialog about the costs of consumption.

Wasted (US Documentary, 21min)

Award-winning filmmaker and Pulitzer Center grantee Karim Chrobog traveled to Seoul, South Korea where he reported on the country’s cutting edge efforts to eliminate food waste. South Korea currently recycles over 93 percent of food waste turning waste into biofuel, fertilizer and animal feed.

Meanwhile, in the US, every year, 30 to 40 percent of what is grown and raised in the United States is thrown away or rots between farms and kitchens. That’s 133 billion pounds of food—more than enough to feed the 800 million people worldwide who face hunger every day. Through a series of reports, Karim investigates the connection between food waste and climate change, poverty, and food security.
